110: Negotiation
Regardless of intent or number of people killed in the process, the end results of either negotiation or violence will end up at the same place in the long run, when looking at the systemic impact on all parties to the conflict. This course is transformational for all parties partaking, as it provides tools and opportunities to practice empathy-buildiing, inter-cultural communications, and metrics for synergy-building.
One of the styles of mediation that we use is Transformative mediation. The goal of transformative mediation mixed with Human SystemicsTM is quite appropriately the transformation of the relationship between the parties. The mediator accomplishes this by focusing on the interactions between the disputants. They facilitate constructive communication by empowering the parties and encouraging recognition of differing points of view.
Mediation provides an opportunity for participants to:
- Clarify issues and interests
- Express feelings
- Explore options
- Be heard
- Craft a voluntary, mutually agreed-upon outcome
Fundamental principles of mediation include:
- Balanced and respectful process
- Confidentiality
- Direct or other meaningful participation
